India and England have met numerous times over their longstanding history of international cricket, winning or drawing 58 games each.
Rohit Sharma’s side were victorious over England at this venue in their last meeting a couple of years ago and will hope to repeat that performance against them this time around.
1. India vs England Test Match
India are on their way to victory against England after dominating in the fourth Test match. Rohit Sharma’s men will look set to close out the series at Ranchi with ease as India hold a 3-1 advantage but England have something left for pride as they still have one match left to make things exciting in this series finale.
Sports18 will broadcast the match live, while JioCinema can stream it. Australia’s Foxtel and Kayo will show it while Sky Sports in the UK will provide live coverage.
India have made an excellent start to Day 2, amassing an enormous first-innings lead of 259 runs. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill both scored half-centuries to pace India in the second session; debutant Devdutt Padikkal also hopes for an outstanding debut Test innings performance.
Meanwhile, England opener Zak Crawley was dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav for a golden duck and this came as a major blow for England who had looked dangerous at points during their innings. Joe Root took full advantage of this situation by capitalising on Bumrah’s absence to score an outstanding 121* that gave England some hope of levelling the scores this time round.
England bowlers have also been in fine form as spinners Shoaib Bashir and Tom Hartley have collected two wickets apiece to exert pressure on Indian batsmen while trying to restrict run flow. Dhruv Jurel has shown resilience though by holding an unbroken stand of 75 runs with Tom Curran.
James Anderson is just two wickets short of reaching 700 Test wickets, and is in excellent form. The fast bowler will look to continue his dominance during the final session of this match but may come under constant pressure from India’s young batsmen looking to post an impressive total in this Test match.
2. India vs England ODI
After taking a 3-2 victory in the T20 series, India will look to build on their winning streak when they meet England in their inaugural ODI match-up. Both teams are equally ranked and it promises to be an intense encounter – particularly since England skipper Jos Butler will want nothing more than to claim his maiden bilateral series victory as full-time captain; Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes and Joe Root will help him meet that objective.
India’s bowling attack will be spearheaded by pacemen Yuzvendra Chahal and Jasprit Bumrah, with Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel serving as spinners. Youngster Shubman Gill has performed exceptionally in 50-over cricket recently and should aim to carry this form into this match as well.
England and India always produce intense matches when they face each other in one-day international cricket (ODI) format, and have met on 107 occasions since 2002 in this format; India have won 58 games while England have managed just 43 wins despite recent struggles against world number two side.
England’s batsmen must play at their best if they want to chase down a massive target successfully. They will need to avoid overplaying and leaving themselves vulnerable against an unexpected counter-attack; Jos Buttler, Harry Brook and Jofra Archer are all effective scorers; however they need support from their lower order for England to reach the final.
Phil Salt will open for England alongside Jos Buttler and look to build on their strong partnership to get their innings off to a fast start. Axar Patel will deliver India’s opening over, hoping to take advantage of an impeding surface that has become sticky with demerara sugar; his first over will attempt to exploit its lack of bounce by turning and bouncing more, yet remaining difficult for batters to score runs on this pitch.
3. India vs England T20I
India and England both boast strong records when it comes to T20I cricket, having won 12 and lost 11 matches respectively over 252 T20Is between them. Both sides also met twice during previous T20I World Cup semifinals – each winning their match by equal margins.
India will aim to avenge their 10-wicket loss in the 2022 T20 World Cup semifinal against Jos Buttler and Co when they meet them again at Guyana on Thursday in the second semi-final. Both teams remain unchanged.
Rohit Sharma opened India’s innings and immediately formed an effective partnership with SKY Yuvraj Singh as they put on 57 runs in five overs, playing an aggressive innings and with Yuvraj smashing three fours and one six in his opening over alone!
Adil Rashid breaks up the partnership by dismissing SKY Yuvraj Singh with a leg-break bowler right on the seam; Yuvraj attempted to push the ball down but got hit on his pad instead, leading him to discuss it with umpire but ultimately not review his decision.
Axar Patel takes over for India in their next over, and immediately strikes for another wicket with his arm-ball targeting Bairstow’s off stump; it slips through Bairstow’s bat before flying straight towards short mid on and going for four runs.
Rohit Sharma found an opening with his pull shot, sending it sailing over deep square leg for a SIX! The over ended with two dot balls; on the second of these dot balls SKY attempted to sweep but was caught in front and lost his review attempt.
4. India vs England T20I Series
On Thursday at Providence Stadium in Guyana, India will face England in their second semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit Sharma-led India will look to avenge a 10-wicket loss against Jos Buttler’s England at this same stage four years prior.
India and England have met 23 times in T20 Internationals, with India holding the edge in terms of wins-losses records compared to England (India has won 12 matches compared to 11). Both teams have come out victorious two out of four meetings at the T20 World Cup; Yuvraj Singh’s six sixes led India to victory during their debut meeting against England at 2007 edition in South Africa while in Colombo 2012 they bowled England out for 80 runs while chasing 171 runs!
Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan will lead an India side that features heavy hitters such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan in an anticipated high-octane clash against England. Meanwhile, England have had impressive showings during their group stage campaign thanks to Jos Buttler’s fine form with both bat and ball and Alex Hales’ classy bowling skills that helped them progress to this stage of competition.
Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel look likely to keep their spots in India’s playing XI, without Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube due to injury. England will rely on Jos Buttler, Alex Hales, Moeen Ali as well as newcomers Sam Curran and Jofra Archer – an array of veterans.
Chris Gaffaney and Rodney Tucker of New Zealand will serve as umpires, with Joel Wilson of Australia serving as TV umpire and Paul Reiffel being appointed fourth umpire. India TV will telecast the match while WillowTV in the US will live stream it and Sky Sports broadcasting it across England.
